He got this from when God told Moses to tell the people that "I Am" had sent him when they asked him. "I am that I am" is a perpetual state of being and so can be shorted to "BE". Well, if this is the case then words like "beloved" (which is a compound word) can be separated to be-loved or BE loved (God loved), beheld/behold can mean God-held/God-hold, etc. Pretty cool, huh?
